UAE Calls for Urgent Ceasefire in Sudan to End Humanitarian Suffering

UAE’s Anwar Gargash urges Sudan’s warring factions to agree on an immediate ceasefire. He calls for a three-month humanitarian truce and a civilian-led transition to end the crisis.

Dr Anwar Gargash, diplomatic adviser to President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, has urged Sudan’s warring factions, the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces, to agree on an immediate ceasefire and bring an end to the devastating conflict.

Highlighting the scale of the crisis, Dr. Gargash said nearly 30 million Sudanese need food and nutrition aid, while around nine million have been displaced. He described the ongoing war as one that no side can win and appealed for dialogue and compromise instead of continued fighting.

He reaffirmed the UAE’s support for a three-month humanitarian truce to allow safe aid delivery and pave the way for talks on a civilian-led government. Referring to the Quartet on Sudan proposal, he noted that it outlines a nine-month transition plan toward peace and stability.

Dr. Gargash also called for accountability for atrocities committed, especially in El Fasher, stressing that the UAE’s stance focuses on supporting the Sudanese people, prioritizing humanitarian relief, and promoting lasting peace through political resolution.
